Waving, not drowning

Last month my short (short) story got shortlisted for a prize with Retreat West. I’m delighted as I’ve entered this a few times and not even been long-listed and I mostly entered on a whim, thinking at least my entry fee would support the community a bit (as you can imagine, times are hard for independent writing communities). I wonder if there’s something to be said for not worrying too much about these things?
